When traveling to the United Kingdom, the first thing you must do is figure out whether or not you will need a visa. US travelers carrying US passports DO NOT need a visa to visit the UK. The UK consists of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

If you find out that you do need a visa – you must then decide what type of visa you need to apply for.
There are several types of visas that depend on the type of trip you are planning on taking to the UK.

1. Visitor’s Visa – For standard tourist travel
2. Work Visa – For those who have acquired a job in the UK and will be
    working and living in the UK
3. Settlement Visa – For those who intend on moving to the UK and
    taking up residence
4. Student Visa – For those who intend to study in a college or university
    in the UK
5. Direct Airside Transit Visa – For those travelers who are passing
    through the UK via airport
6. Visitor’s Transit Visa – For those travelers who are changing planes or
    terminals or who plan to leave the UK airports for up to 3 days

There are other visas you can obtain but the 6 mentioned above are the most common visas requested by individuals traveling to the UK.

As soon as you complete and pay for the application, print it out. You will need to gather documentation to support your application before you ship it to Allstar Passports & Visas.
